Communications Institute at CSU – June 14-17, 2017
The Department of Journalism and Media Communication is pleased to invite Colorado high school students to spend several exciting days on campus exploring, learning and experiencing the many innovative approaches to journalism and communication. The goal of the Institute will be to introduce attendees to the ideas and tools they need to become more effective, confident communicators.
Learn and play at Colorado State University
At the Institute, students spend three days and nights on campus gaining new information about print, online media, video and digital photography. Learning is balanced with social and recreational opportunities.
Activities include instruction with hands-on learning and shared experiences through faculty members and professional communicators. Students also tour the campus newsroom, radio station and television studios. Attendees will discover how CSU students produce their award-winning daily newspaper, television and radio programs, as well as magazines, websites and newsletters while working at Rocky Mountain Student Media Corporation. The Alliance Partnership offers expert advice on applying to colleges, admission requirements, financial aid and housing.
Instruction, supplies and room and board are provided at no cost. Applicants pay only a $25 Application fee. Participants stay with college student mentors in CSU's residence halls at the Academic Village.
An informational meeting upon arrival and a celebratory closing lunch are held for students and their parents..

Journalism and Media Communication at CSU
- The JMC department was founded in 1968, and the undergraduate program has been accredited since 1972. About 500 undergraduate students are enrolled in the department preparing for careers in newspaper, magazine, television, radio and Internet reporting, public relations, specialized and technical communication, computer-mediated communication and emerging careers related to media technology.
- Students also participate in an internship program with professional media organizations. The department maintains a highly interactive relationship with the Rocky Mountain Student Media Corporation.
- The Alliance High School Partnership unites students. families, high school personnel, and the Colorado State University community in a common goal: to envision education beyond high school and send a greater number of Colorado students to college.
